An Invitation Into Yoga Teacher Training

Welcome!

If you’ve found your way here, you probably already know that yoga is more than shapes on a mat. Maybe it’s the way a long exhale softens your shoulders. Or how something subtle shifts in savasana, like a letting go you didn’t realize you were holding onto. Small moments of presence that gently, and sometimes unexpectedly, change the tone of your day.

This training is an invitation to explore what lives beneath the practice you already love.

Together, we’ll spend time with the parts of yoga that tend to stay with you long after class ends. The philosophy that supports you off the mat. The subtle body and its language of energy. The ongoing practice of meeting yourself with honesty and care. You’ll explore what consistency really feels like, how to relate to your mind with more ease, and how breath, attention, and awareness shape not just your practice, but your everyday life.

You don’t need to have plans to teach. You just need a practice that matters to you and a curiosity to understand it more deeply.

Take your time exploring this page. And if something sparks a question, reach out - I’d love to hear from you. Spots tend to fill quickly, so don’t wait too long to connect.

Warmly,
Debra Mishalove , Director of Teacher Training

Hello!

My name is Debra Mishalove, and I’m the Director of Flow’s Teacher Training. I’m so glad you’ve found your way here.

If you’re curious about teacher training, you already sense that yoga is more than shapes on a mat. Maybe it’s the way a long exhale softens your shoulders, or how something subtly shifts in savasana—a letting go you didn’t realize you were holding. Small moments of presence that quietly change the tone of your day.

Flow’s teacher training is an invitation to explore what lives beneath the practice you already love.

Flow has been offering teacher trainings for over 20 years, and our program is intentionally personal, thoughtfully paced, and rooted in real-world practice—not performance. Unlike many trainings that rely on rotating or visiting faculty, every session is led by our core senior teachers. You’ll be known here—supported, mentored, and guided by teachers who are deeply invested in your growth throughout the training and beyond.

Together, we’ll spend time with the parts of yoga that tend to stay with you long after class ends: the philosophy that supports you off the mat, the subtle body and its language of energy, and the ongoing practice of meeting yourself with honesty and care. We’ll explore what consistency really feels like, how to relate to your mind with more ease, and how breath, attention, and awareness shape not just your practice, but your everyday life.

Whether you plan to teach or are simply curious, this training welcomes anyone with a meaningful practice and a curiosity to explore it more deeply. We welcome students who are here to learn, to question, and to grow.

During the training, we’ll explore:

  • Yin, Vinyasa, and Restorative yoga practices

  • Yoga philosophy and how it applies to everyday life

  • Functional, intelligent sequencing and skillful cueing

  • The subtle body, breathwork, and meditation practices

  • Anatomy, alignment, and injury-aware teaching

  • Yoga and psychology, including trauma-awareness and cultural appropriation

  • The inner work of developing presence, confidence, and clarity

Flow offers two ways to complete the 200-hour program: a Spring Intensive and a Fall/Winter five-month Immersion. Our trainings typically fill each season, so we encourage you to apply early.

Take your time exploring our website. And if something sparks a question, please reach out—I’d love to hear from you.

Warmly,

Debra Mishalove

Is This Training Right for You?

Some people feel a clear call to teach. For others, it’s a quieter pull toward more meaning, more presence, more connection. At Flow, we welcome both.

Our Yoga Teacher Training is designed to meet you where you are—whether you’re stepping into leadership or simply ready to live with more depth. It’s an opportunity to deepen your practice, expand your perspective, and be part of a supportive community that genuinely cheers on your growth, on and off the mat.

Here are some of the reasons students join—and why it might be the perfect fit for you:

✔ You’ve always loved the idea of a steady yoga practice and know it helps you feel and live your best—but making it happen consistently has been a struggle.

✔ In your work—whether you lead, teach, or support others—you’ve seen how yoga and mindfulness can strengthen teams and build resilience. You’re ready to share these tools in a grounded, accessible way.

✔ Yoga has carried you through some of life’s hardest seasons. Now, you want to understand why it works—and maybe share its benefits with others.

✔ You’re seeking tools for a more fulfilling life, to move beyond limiting beliefs like “I’m not enough” or “I’ll be happy when…” and step into who you truly are.

✔ Some of your clearest “aha” moments have happened on the mat. You’ve been in classes where it felt like the teacher was speaking directly to your soul.

✔ You love your current work—but the thought of teaching yoga lights you up. You’re not planning to quit your day job; you just want more creativity, movement, and meaning in your week.

✔ You thrive in vibrant, inspiring group settings—and it’s been a while since you’ve felt that kind of connection. After a challenging season, a supportive yoga immersion feels like the right next step.

✔ You’ve put off your dream of Teacher Training long enough, and you’re starting to ask: If not now, when?

If any of this sounds like you, we’d love to connect. Reach out with your questions and get a real sense of what this training looks and feels like.

SECTION: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I miss a session?
All sessions are recorded, and you’ll have 3 months after the final weekend to catch up. You can also make up missed content by joining future training weekends at no extra cost.

Do I need to want to teach?
Not at all. Many participants join simply to deepen their practice. You can also start with our Yoga Studies Track (fewer hours and no teaching practicums, offered at 30% off) and decide later if you’d like to complete certification.

Is this training physically demanding?
Not in a “boot camp” way. We offer a mix of strong, gentle, and restorative practices—and you’ll learn how to adapt for your body and others’.

What if my schedule changes during training?
We’ve built in flexibility. You can pause and resume with a future cohort or make up missed sessions along the way. You have options, and we’ll work with you.

Is this Yoga Alliance approved?
Yes. Flow is a Registered Yoga School (RYS), and graduates are eligible to register as an RYT-200 with Yoga Alliance.

I’m nervous about teaching in front of a room—even though I want to. Any tips?
You’re not alone. We start small, build your confidence step by step, and create a supportive environment for practice teaching. By graduation, most people feel not just ready—but excited—to lead.

How much homework is there outside of training hours?
In addition to live sessions, expect about 1–3 hours per week of reading and study modules. You’ll also complete 30 yoga classes (at Flow or virtually) during the program. Our curriculum exceeds Yoga Alliance requirements because we’ve added modules we believe truly prepare you.

Is there parking?
Yes. Nearby parking garages and street parking are available (we recommend the ParkMobile app). We’re also metro-accessible via the Red and Green Lines, and many trainees carpool.

Do we get breaks during weekends?
Yes. Each session includes breaks. We provide tea and light treats, and we recommend bringing snacks and drinks so you can refuel.

SECTION: A NOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER

A Note from Our Founder & Teacher Training Director

My yoga teaching journey began almost by accident. New to DC, I signed up for a class at a local studio. A simple flyer advertising a Yoga Teacher Training caught my eye. Teaching yoga had never crossed my mind—but something inside whispered “yes.”

I’m forever grateful I listened.

At the time, I loved my work in marketing and supporting social justice–oriented clients. But within months of that training, I was teaching classes out of my tiny apartment. Within two years, Flow opened its doors.

For you, this decision might be more carefully considered. Maybe “yoga teacher training” has been sitting on your bucket list for years. Maybe you’re craving a side hustle that feels meaningful, or you simply want to better understand why yoga has been such a powerful anchor in your life. Maybe you dream of opening your own studio one day.

Whatever brings you here, I want you to know: we’ve poured our hearts into making this program exceptional.

For two decades, we’ve guided passionate humans on transformative journeys. Some graduates have opened studios or become sought-after teachers. Others lead small community classes, integrate yoga into their work, or simply feel more grounded and fulfilled in their own lives.

No matter your inspiration, you’re welcome here.

Explore this page. Read the testimonials. Join a class. Talk to our graduates. I truly believe we’ve created something special—a space for you to grow as a compassionate, confident yoga teacher, and as a human being.

Have questions? Don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d love to meet you.

Program Description & Details

Flow’s training began in 2005 and is respected as the gold standard in 200-hour programs.

Our training offers a rich curriculum that spans asana, functional alignment, anatomy, mindfulness, subtle body energetics, yoga history and philosophy, breathwork, intelligent vinyasa sequencing, assisting, teaching methodology, trauma-informed yoga, social justice in yoga, classroom management, and the business of yoga. Recognized as DC’s Best Yoga Teacher Training, our program is crafted to create a meaningful, transformative experience that inspires you to live with greater purpose and confidence.

Throughout this journey, you’ll experience an integrated focus on personal growth woven seamlessly into every aspect of the training. Expect to explore big life questions and to develop essential skills, like public speaking and authentic communication, within a supportive community. Using the framework of yoga, we’ll navigate life’s obstacles together, giving you the tools and encouragement to step forward more fully and confidently toward the life you envision.

Flexible: Designed To Fit Your Schedule
Flow’s training is spaciously designed to make it easy to integrate into your busy and sometimes unpredictable schedule. This means that while the majority of our time together will be teacher-led, all sessions will be recorded and you’ll have the option to complete some of the independent modules before and after the training ends.

Personalized
Many teacher trainings rely on repetitive sequence practice, often resulting in a uniform teaching style among graduates. At Flow, we believe in a different approach. Our training is not a "cookie cutter" program—it's an opportunity to discover and cultivate your unique gifts. Whether you feel drawn to lead restorative and gentle classes or energizing power flows, our program is designed to help you develop your authentic voice and style, empowering you to serve and inspire the communities you care about in a way that feels true to you.

Mentorship & Teacher Development
From mentorship to opportunities to assist in live classes and a deep exploration into the full spectrum of yoga from its origins in India to its evolution into our modern urban lives- you’ll graduate from Flow’s program fully prepared & supported to teach & lead classes.

Upon completion of this program, you’ll feel fully prepared to teach yoga in gyms, studios, corporate settings, private sessions, and more.

Program Highlights

We are here to support you every step along the way. Our alumni can be found teaching at Flow, studios spanning the globe, working at spas, gyms, corporations, prisons, shelters, and non-profit organizations, leading their own training programs and many have even opened successful studios & yoga platforms. And it doesn’t end there! Upon graduation, you will be invited to assist in our public classes, and lead community classes and we’ll help you find a path to take your teaching into the world.

Throughout the experience, you’ll be immersed in an offering filled with heart, soul, and professional integrity. Your investment is respected and honored. You’ll graduate prepared and ready to teach. A few more things we’d like to share about our program:

  1. Regularly voted “Best of DC”, Flow is recognized near and far for its excellent teaching team. When you take our training program you’ll have access to all of our classes and upon graduation, you’ll have the option to observe and assist in the virtual or live classroom.

  2. Unlike many training programs, at Flow, the entire curriculum is presented by Flow's Senior Teaching Team because we believe at the core of an excellent program is the ability to develop a personal relationship with your teachers who know your name, your practice, see you on a regular basis and care about your development and progress on the teaching path.

  3. The training curriculum was developed and adapted over nineteen years and builds intelligently week by week. And while many other trainings swap out teachers/topics each week - with Flow there is a throughline throughout the program with your teaching team so you can build real relationships and work through carefully planned content.

  4. We view graduation from our teacher training as a new beginning and we will continue to foster your development even after the program ends.  All graduates have the option to mentor with our teachers and teach weekly community class.  We also have continuing education and often connect you with teaching opportunities.

  5. We offer a flexible training schedule, which is perfect for someone with an unpredictable calendar. and incorporate make-up opportunities for missed content to ensure you receive all of the content you need to graduate. Plus once you are enrolled in our training, you are able to drop into any module of a future training - either to make up content or get a refresh. Occasionally participants choose to take some content in our Spring Training and the rest in the Fall. We can work with you to develop this independent schedule.

  6. While many trainings are structured around memorizing and teaching from specific scripts, (aka the typical cookie-cutter “memorize a sequence” kind of training) our emphasis (and our passion!) is to give you the tools and the confidence to develop classes that truly serve the audience you feel most connected with. Some of you may want to focus on learning to teach an advanced & sweaty perfectly sequenced power class and some of you may want to create gentle restorative classes or somewhere in between. We’ll help you discover your path and support you along the way.

  7. Flow’s is a Registered Yoga School (RYS) with Yoga Alliance and graduates will be able to register as a RYT-200.

You’ll also have an actual brand new (and marketable) certification which will open new doors and give you access to all kinds of possibilities with yoga’s continued to rise in popularity year after year - showing up in gyms, corporations, the healthcare system, and beyond.

    5. And, one of the biggest perks our graduates always share is the incredible bonds they make with their classmates. This shared experience will bring you lifelong friends who will inspire you, cheer for you, and have your back.

  • Hear directly from those who have been through the program! Let us know if you’d like to chat in person with any of our graduates we are happy to put you in touch!

  • We understand that life can sometimes get in the way, and attending every in-person session may not always be possible. However, we've got you covered! We offer the flexibility to make up missed sessions by providing recorded sessions for your convenience. Additionally, if you feel the need to reinforce your learning or revisit specific modules in the future, you will have the opportunity to retake those modules in upcoming trainings. Our trainers are here to support and guide you throughout your training journey. You can coordinate your make-up sessions or module retakes with them to ensure that you receive a seamless learning experience. Item description

  • Opt for our complete training to earn a Yoga Alliance Certificate through homework, practice teaching modules, presentations, and more. Alternatively, our Yoga Studies program offers a slightly reduced curriculum (15-20 hours less) with optional assignments. If you begin in Yoga Studies and decide to pursue the 200-hour certification, you can transition after the first two sessions. Just let us know your intention to matriculate.

Fall 2025 Dates

Dates will be posted in May 2025 and in person sessions will run Oct - Jan.

We’ll be opening enrollment for our Fall training in May, as many participants like to plan ahead and get started on the "at-home" portions of the training. Enrolling early is always beneficial in our program, as it allows you to begin working on pre-training modules like our self-paced 30-hour anatomy course, readings, and studio practices. Getting an early start will help you create more space for yourself once the in-person training begins, giving you extra time to absorb the material.

All in-person sessions are also accessible via live Zoom for those who may be traveling, and recordings will be available to help you catch up on any missed classes.

While most trainees will complete the course by the graduation date, with permission, those needing additional time can make up missed assignments or content within three months. Plus, all trainees have the option to join future training sessions for make-up classes & content refreshers.

Why Yoga Teacher Training Might Be Right for You

Some of us hear a distinct call: “I want to teach yoga.” For others, it’s a softer, persistent whisper: “I want more presence, more embodiment, more meaning.” This training honors both calls—whether you’re here to lead or simply to live more deeply, with purpose and peace. Flow’s Training is an invitation to expand, to listen deeply, and to bring the wisdom of yoga into a life that feels real, authentic, and whole. In helping you decide you may consider any of this resonates…

  • You've always loved the idea of a steady, daily yoga practice, knowing it supports you in feeling and being your best, yet you’ve struggled to make it a reality.

  • Yoga has been there for you through some of life’s toughest times, and you’re ready to understand why and how it works—perhaps to share its power with others.

  • You’re seeking tools for a more fulfilling life, to help you move past limiting beliefs, like “I’m not enough” or “I’ll be happy when…” You’re ready to step beyond others' expectations and let go of outdated reactions and worries.

  • Some of your clearest moments—those "aha" insights—have happened right on your mat. You’ve had those classes where the teacher seemed to be speaking directly to you, as if they knew just what you needed.

  • In your role as a healthcare practitioner, teacher, therapist, or in life, you see yoga and mindfulness as powerful tools to support others. You want to learn the art of sequencing, modification, and creating truly impactful classes.

  • You like (or even love!) your job but have dreamed of teaching yoga on the side, blending creativity and freedom with your current work. The idea of standing in front of a room of people might feel intimidating, but you’re ready to move beyond that fear (we completely understand this one!).

  • You enjoy learning on your own but thrive in a vibrant, inspiring group setting—and maybe it’s been a while since you’ve felt that joy. After one of the most challenging seasons of your life, an immersion into yoga studies within a supportive community feels right.

  • You’ve put off your dream of taking yoga teacher training, and now the question lingers: If not now, when?

If any of this sounds familiar and you are in the decision making process, reach out and let’s connect! We’d love to help by sharing more information on what to expect and give you a deeper sense of what training will look & feel like to help you

Meet Your Training Team

I am a better yoga teacher and student because I graduated from Flow’s YTT course. Debra and the teaching team, is not only knowledgeable about the discipline yoga but has a deep passion for developing creative, empathic, and connected teachers. The course taught me how to design thoughtful sequences, use trauma informed language, practice purposeful assists, and grow my voice and presence as a teacher. I feel extremely confident and prepared to enter any studio room, as Flow taught me how to teach from my own practice and embodied approach. I am incredibly thankful for Flow’s mentorship, advice, and offerings. I could not recommend their YTT curriculum more!

A note from our Founder & Teacher Training Director

My yoga teaching journey began on a whim. New to DC, I signed up for a class at a local studio. A simple flyer advertising a Yoga Teacher Training caught my eye. Teaching yoga? Never crossed my mind. But something inside whispered "yes."

A woman with glasses and a top knot hairstyle, smiling, standing indoors in front of a light-colored wall and curtains, wearing a gray cardigan with pink and white patterns over a white shirt.

I'm forever grateful I listened. While I loved my existing marketing career in supporting social justice oriented clients, within months of the training I was leading my own classes from my tiny apartment, and within two years, Flow opened its doors.

For you, this decision might be more carefully considered. Maybe "yoga teacher training" sits on your bucket list, a lingering possibility you've been contemplating. Perhaps you're yearning for a side hustle or want to learn more about the profound impact this practice has. Or maybe you dream of opening your own studio one day!

Whatever your reason, we at Flow want you to know: we've poured our hearts into making this program exceptional.

For two decades, we've guided passionate individuals like you on transformative journeys. Graduates have gone on to open studios, become sought-after teachers, or find deep fulfillment leading smaller groups. Others use their newfound knowledge to enrich their own lives.

No matter your inspiration, we warmly invite you to explore Flow. Read testimonials, join a class, connect with graduates. We believe we've created something truly special – a space for you to blossom as a compassionate and confident yoga teacher, ready to share the gift of this practice with the world.

“Where to even begin? Despite the outbreak of a global pandemic, a tumultuous summer of racial injustice and calls for reform, and the craziness of life in between, Flow Yoga Center went above and beyond to offer a fully virtual 200hr YTT that was by all accounts STELLAR. Not only was the depth and breadth of learning profound, but I was also able to discover a community that got me through some of 2020’s toughest moments. I could not recommend Flow Yoga Center more.” — Alex H.
